A junior bull that was "chock full of meat" and expected to have "a lot of influence over females", according to judge Tom Wilding-Davies, was worthy of the supreme title in the Red Angus judging.
Mr Wilding-Davies, a Woolworths livestock manager in WA, said both the junior champion bull from Jillangolo stud, Keith, and senior champion grand female from Drayton Park, Tintinara, were fine representatives of the breed, but that the junior bull was greatly admired for its "very fluid movement".
"The beef cattle industry is about getting efficient production of red meat as quickly as you can and hopefully be as profitable as possible when seasons allow," he said.
"The senior female is a lovely young cow with a very complete bull calf at-foot, it's a female with longevity, but the junior bull just has a tremendous amount of carcase and meat potential.
"As a calf, it's a bit short of meat in the hind, but it is particularly sound, with good testicles, depth of chest, spring of rib - a really mobile calf."

The grand champion female was senior champion Drayton Park Nutella N232.
Owner Sarah Burpee said Nutella was shown as a heifer at Adelaide in 2018, where it was reserve champion.
"Its father - Drayton Park Dateline B70 - was a former Adelaide grand champion, while its calf at-foot is also by a grand champion bull from three years ago," she said.
"It's back in-calf to that bull, due in April."
The Burpees brought three females to the show, and were also successful in taking home junior champion female with Drayton Park Peach Schnapps P07.
Senior champion bull went to Black Diamond Red Phenomenon P500, Black Diamond Angus, Cowra, NSW, which Mr Wilding-Davies said did not have "too much wrong with him".
"It's extremely long with good carcase all the way through to that hindquarter," he said.
"Its overall package is also very admirable, but it wasn't as fluid in its movement to beat the junior bull for grand champion."
