A YOUNG Landrace boar purchased for $2100 was the highlight of a strong purebred pig sale at the Royal Adelaide Show on Wednesday.
The top-priced pig of the sale was bought for $2100 by Kevin, Robyn and Ross McMahon, Tullamore, NSW, bidding through Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant's Ashley Fawcett.
The boar - Aroora Duns H1081 - was sold by Jim, Rhonda, Greg and Peta Davis, Aroora Enterprises, Murray Bridge, and won the junior champion and champion Landrace Boar judging on Saturday.
Its P2 fat was 9.5 millimetres and it weighed 112 kilograms at 132 days, with an Average Daily Growth of 848 grams.
Duns, born on 16 April this year, is a son of sire Aroora Duns F6451 and dam Aroora Storm Queen F3403.
The McMahons also bought the Large White boar which had been named supreme pig in show - Gumshire Louis H365 - for $2050.
At the fall of the final hammer, 53 of the 62 lots had sold.
Among the volume buyers were KJ&JC Burge, Swan Hill, Vic, who bought a Landrace boar, a Landrace gilt, a Large White gilt and two sows with litters.
Paul Baxter, Forbes, NSW, bought a Landrace mated gilt, a Large White mated gilt and four Large White gilts, while BR&TN Straford, Tumby Bay, bought two Landrace gilts and two Large White gilts.
Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant's Colin Fawcett said there was good interest in the show pig sale this year.
"There was good interest driven by the pig job picking back up of late," he said.
"There was buyers from four states registered and a lot of the passed in pigs were sold soon after the auction."
Five Large White boars sold to $2050, averaging $1470, five Large White mated gilts sold to $1400, averaging $1060, and 13 Large White gilts sold to $850, averaging $533.
Four Landrace boars were sold to $2100, averaging $1250, three Landrace mated gilts sold to $2000, averaging $1733, and seven Landrace gilts sold to $800, averaging $600.
Three Berkshire boars were sold to $1650, averaging $1267, with two Berkshire mated gilts sold to $1250, averaging $1125, and four Berkshire gilts sold to $750, averaging $663.
Two sows with litters sold to $2000, averaging $1750, with five any other breed sows and boars selling to $900, averaging $710.
The sale was conducted by Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant, with Landmark stud stock's Gordon Wood and Leo Redden on the auctioneering stand.
