HOLSTEIN judge Lisa McKay, Irrewillipe, Vic, said years spent milking on the farm had honed her tastes when judging - she is looking for functional cows that "last the test of time".
This search ended with a senior champion win for the "super dairy" five-year-old Benlargo Sid Furry, shown by Benlargo Holsteins, Glencoe.
"This cow is so dairy, so angular and so sharp," she said.
Sid Furry's story goes back to a visit Benlargo's Angela Tweddle had to North America at 21.
While there, she saw a particular cow that stuck with her until five years ago, when the opportunity came up to buy an embryo from that family.
"It was an amazing cow and this is a granddaughter of that cow," she said.
"When I saw it was for sale, I was pretty keen."
Ms Tweddle said the offspring had proved as good as its granddam.
"It's balanced, correct and an all-round good cow," she said.

Sid Furry previously won an honourable mention for senior champion cow at the Victorian Winter Fair, Bendigo, Vic.
Ms Tweddle said they have been using Sid Furry in their own embryo transfer program and gained five daughters in the past 12 months.
"It's a great milking cow, easy and low fuss," she said.
Reserve senior champion went to Empire Brooke Paris, also from the five-year-old class, shown by Misty Brae Holdings, Hindmarsh Tiers.
Ms McKay said intermediate champion, 2.5-year-old cow Benlargo Elijah Ding, Benlargo Holsteins, was an "easy winner".
"It's a young heifer you really can't fault, with a super udder," she said.
"It's a great framed, very correct cow."
Reserve intermediate champion went to three-year-old Robsvue Crush Penny, shown by RS&RJ Walmsley, Myponga.
Juvenile champion cow went to the "ultra dairy" yearling Misty Brae Diamondback May, from Misty Brae Holdings, Hindmarsh Tiers.
"I'm all about that style, and this cow had the most style," Ms McKay said.
In a close placing, reserve juvenile champion went to the heifer that had also stood second to the juvenile champion in its class.
This was Billabong McCutchen Sparkle, from Billabong Farm, Woods Point.
