Return volume buyers helped Mulloorie achieve total clearance at the Merino and Poll Merino stud's Tintinara on-property auction on Thursday last week.
Thirty-six rams were offered, which sold to $4200 and averaged $1774, an improvement on the 2018 average of $1623.
Tohl Brothers, Toloona, Booborowie, who have been clients of Mulloorie for about 15 years, bought four rams on the day, including the sale top - a September-2017 drop Poll Merino with a fleece micron of 19.3, a 3.6 standard deviation, 19 coefficient of variation and 99.5 per cent comfort factor.
Stud co-principal Peter Meyer described the sale-topper as an "upstanding, clean-faced ram carrying well-nourished bright wool with great character".
Other multiple buyers on the day included Maddern Farms, Kaniva, Vic, and AMP Farms Trust, Mount Pleasant, who bought four and five rams respectively.
Stud co-principal Brett Meyer was pleased with Mulloorie's line up, which he said "came up well after a tough season".
The Meyer family present their rams in a more natural paddock condition, which pays off for their potential buyers, because what they see is what they're going to get.
- TOM PENNA
Elders and Landmark conducted the sale, with Elders studstock Tom Penna carrying out auctioneering duties on the day.
Mr Penna said there were bidding battles across the entire catalogue, with top-end rams attracting particularly good competition.
He said the rams on offer were of high quality.
"The Meyer family present their rams in a more natural paddock condition, which pays off for their potential buyers, because what they see is what they're going to get," he said.
Mr Penna said the increased sale average compared to 2018 was anticipated, with the total clearance on the day being a very positive opening for the ram selling season.
Mulloorie's Brinkworth sale will be held on September 16.
