The outstanding returns in Merinos were evident at the 2019 South East Merino Field Day with one of the largest crowds seen in many years.
Stud participant numbers were also up with 30 studs displaying at the Keith Showground from as far afield as the Eyre Peninsula and Mid North, as well as Andoma, Mundulla and Moorundie, Keith, which opened their gates with on-property displays.
SE Merino Field Day president Ryan Kluska was rapt with the turn out and said it had grown to be "one of the premier Merino events in SA".
"It is a great time to be in Merinos and there are a lot people that have come to look at Merinos that are thinking about switching from British Breeds to Merinos," he said.
Mr Kluska was hopeful locally the upcoming ram sales would be at least as good as 2018, especially with the strong season, but said some volume orders could be missing from more northern sales with more limited pastoral enquiry.
