Producers wanting to learn more about the lifting of ovine johnes disease trading barriers are invited to attend information sessions at locations across the state next week, hosted by PIRSA.
The lifting of trade restrictions, effective from July 1 this year, has ended 20 years of regulatory control of OJD trading barriers in SA, a change which has been cautiously welcomed by the state's sheep industry.
Previously, all sheep entering SA have had to be approved vaccinates (lambs vaccinated prior to 16 weeks of age) from low risk areas, but the change means SA producers can trade freely with interstate flocks.

The information sessions will be run by PIRSA animal health officers and Zoetis staff, and will cover topics including recent changes to the OJD program, new entry requirements into SA, strategies to best manage OJD risks, OJD disease information, the One Biosecurity program, and Gudair vaccination.
Sessions will be held at the following locations:
- Jamestown: Tuesday, July 30, Jamestown Aerodrome (Wilkins room)
- Mount Pleasant: Wednesday, July 31, Mount Pleasant Football Club
- Mount Compass: Thursday 1 August, 10 am - 12 pm, Mount Compass Oval
All sessions will run from 10am - 12pm.
