Big classes exemplified the depth of the White Dorper breed judged by Stephanus Malan, Adelaide, Eastern Cape, South Africa, at the 2019 Australian Sheep & Wool Show.
A 2-year-old ewe which had been judged senior champion ewe and grand champion ewe was awarded the supreme exhibit for the breed.
Bred and exhibited by Andrea Vagg, Africans White Dorpers, Moama, NSW, Mr Malan complemented the sheep for her exceptionally strong head and good conformation.
"She is very well balanced with very little mistakes... close to the ideal," he said.
The supreme exhibit had previous show success, she was junior champion ewe at the last year's ASWS and was grand champion ewe at the 2018 and 2019 National Dorper Show held in Toowoomba, Queensland.
The reserve senior champion ewe was exhibited by Alex Glinski, Wirlinga Park, Albury, NSW.
Mr Malan said she showed good muscle covering and stood well, but lacked the scope of the senior champion.
The junior champion ewe was bred and shown by the Aberline White Dorper stud, Hay War Memorial High School, Hay, NSW.
Mr Malan said she had very good length and was well-balanced.
"She was exceptionally strong over her hindquarter," he said.
The reserve junior champion, shown by Cherilyn Lowe, Nomuula, Moonbi, NSW, didn't quite have the finish of the champion, according to Mr Malan.
In the ram classes, senior and grand champion was awarded to an outstanding sire prospect bred and exhibited by Adrian Veitch, Kaya White Dorpers, Narrogin, WA.
The reserve senior champion was shown by Andrea Vagg, Dumisa White Dorpers, Moama, NSW.
Mr Malan said both rams were really outstanding but the champion had a bit more depth and length with good muscle covering.
"His pasterns are really strong and for a mature ram he moves freely, a very functional ram," he said.
The junior champion ram was shown by Africans, while the reserve junior champion was also bred and shown by the stud.
Mr Malan said the champion had exceptional length and balance.
"He has a very strong head and great muscle," he said.
The grand champion ram and the grand champion ewe were each sired by Kaya Pepperjack, a leading sire on the Kaya White Dorper stud.
