Gawler local named as Limousin Youth Ambassador

Named at the Limousin National Junior Show about a fortnight ago, the 19-year-old from Gawler said she was overjoyed to be chosen as the new ambassador.

"I'm really excited for what I'm going to get out of it and hopefully give back," she said.

Ms Bayly, who is a second-year agribusiness student at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, NSW, was a first-time attendee at the breed's national youth show, and said she enjoyed being able to network with other stud breeders.

"For me, a big thing going over there was meeting the bigger studs and getting more involved, and getting those contacts you won't get over in SA," she said.

As part of her ambassador role, Ms Bayly will sit on the board of the National Limousin Committee and attend the National Limousin Sale and Show and the Youth Show, as well as two other industry events to represent and promote the breed.

She also has to run an educational program to promote the breed - which she plans to do with Ms Eckermann, who was named as Most Potential Breeder at the show.

"Phoebe and I are trying to organise something with schools where we get them to see the SA Junior Heifer Expo and from that, get to the National Limousin Junior Show if they show a further interest in Limos," she said.

Ms Bayly has been showing cattle since she was 12 years old, when she began working with Sasha Lanyon from Horizon Limousin stud, Dawesley.

"I love the muscling (of Limousins) and all their carcase traits, as well as the thickness and capacity that the females carry," she said.

Ms Bayly has gone on to establish her own Primrose stud, buying her first heifer in February last year.

"The heifer has just had her first calf, so they'll be exhibited as a cow and calf unit at this year's Royal Adelaide Show," she said.

Ms Bayly hopes to expand her stud herd further.

"I'm a bit limited at the moment because I'm at uni, so I can't grow the stud's bloodline females yet, but we'll get there," she said.
