CHASING the red factor and polled genetic complements in their next stud sire, Glen Waldron and Kim Groner of Elite Charolais, Meandarra, Queensland, paid the top price of $8000 for the reserve senior champion bull, DSK TGL Nockup (P) at the Allflex Charolais National sale at Dubbo last Friday.
Nockup was bred by Chris Knox and Helen Alexander, DSK stud, Coonabarabran, and weighed 938 kilograms at 22 months carrying an eye muscle area (EMA) of 136 square centimetres, fat of 13 millimetres on the rump and 9mm on rib.
Mr Waldron said they were in the market for a red polled bull and this bull ticked a lot of boxes.
"He's by Temana Golden Logie who's been breeding well for DSK producing a lot of outstanding progeny. He's just a complete all-round bull, Mr Waldron said.
DSK Nockup was the only bull sold from five offered, however five sud females sold from seven to average $4100 with two selling to a top of $5000 each.
The first was the red factor Elite Estella P4 (P) by Palgrove Kandoo bred and offered by Kim Groner and Glen Waldron and purchased by Daniel and Nikki Ferme and family for their Gotta Do Well stud, Crystal Brook, South Australia.
Mr Ferme said their Gotta Do Well stud was formed in 2001 with Temana blood females from Mr Ferme's parents Gum View stud which was established in 1989.
He said he liked red factor cattle and Estella would fit well within the herd.
"We are breeding Charbrays for the northern market and grey Brahman bulls crossed with red factored cows produce that well liked sandy coloured Charbray calf," he said.
The Fermes also paid $3500 for Elite Rebby N16 (P) by CML Encore.
The second at $5000 was Chenu Pussycat 97 (P) bred and offered by Rebecca Keeley and Colin Pickering, Chenu stud, Bridgewater, Victoria.
Tasmanian breeder, Neville Fenton, Murton stud, Bushy Park, had bought Chenu females previously and attended the national fixture looking for extra stock.
However, when he saw Chenu Pussycat he knew a fellow breeder and repeat buyer, Shane Graham, Fordell stud, Lachlan, would be interested.
"I make contact and bought the heifer on Shane's behalf," Mr Fenton said.
Thirty-four embryos were also sold in the genetics section to average $559 with four selling at a top of $1150 each.
These were embryos from the joining of Palgrove Moderator with Waterford Marshmellow M26, offered by the Halliday family, Mount Macedon, Vic, and bought by Shane Graham.
