About 40 people turned out to a GRDC forum at Wandearah last week, where sandy soils productivity was discussed with a presentation from CSIRO researcher Therese McBeath.
The forum was one of three being held by the GRDC, with another at Farrell Flat on June 25 and Kingscote on August 16.
The forums aimed to provide local graingrowers and industry stakeholders with the opportunity to discuss grains research, development and extension investments and activities.
New generation and adapted wheat and barley options for a range of sowing times to minimise the impact of frost and heat stress will be the focus of a presentation at the Farrell Flat forum by Kenton Porker from SARDI, while issues such as treating acid soils, growing pulses on acid soils and annual ryegrass control are expected to be discussed at the Kingscote forum.
