THOMAS Foods International could be processing beef again in SA by the end of next year, with some in the industry hoping the extra buying competition could boost prices.
The company recently detailed its plans to open a state-of-the-art abattoir at Murray Bridge to handle beef, sheep, lambs and goats. Beef processing is set to begin in November 2020, with a daily processing capacity of between 1200 and 1400 head of cattle.
Industry leaders such as SA Beef Industry Blueprint chairman Bruce Creek say the reopening will help "strengthen and grow" the state's cattle market.
