AGENTS and farmers are usually 'no-frills' type of people but Penola farmer and ABC journalist Liz Rymill is hoping to convince a few to don pink tutus at the monthly store cattle sale in Mount Gambier this Friday.
It is all for a good cause, raising funds for the Stand Like Stone Foundation, the community foundation for the Limestone Coast.
During the past two months, Ms Rymill has been putting her best foot forward as one of eight South East celebrities learning to dance ahead of the charity's major fundraiser, 'Swinging with the Stars', later this month at the Barn Palais.
She says she was keen to be involved to raise awareness after running a couple of community projects supported by SLSF.
"Their education scholarships are important to country kids buying books and paying for things if they have to move to the city for further study, and Stand Like Stone also has some great projects around rural mental health and well being," she said.
The idea for 'Swinging at the Saleyards' came from Landmark Keatley's Harriet Keatley, who heard about a similar event at Dubbo saleyards in NSW.
"We are pretty keen to get agents to pull on tutus and wear them up on the rails and have people throw in a few coins which will go back into the region," Liz said.
"It is a bit of fun rather than just rattling a tin- hopefully everyone will get involved."
Over the past 12 years of Swinging with the Stars has raised more than $600,000 for local projects.
Tutus will be available from Liz at the store sale.
