Business partners with an idea for the use of soon-to-close pastoral colleges in Longreach and Emerald are being asked to throw their hat into the ring.
The colleges are shutting as part of a broader wind down of the Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges organisation, which is due to finish by the end of the year.
The project management office leading the QATC wind down has invited businesses, individuals and other organisations to put forward their ideas for the use of pastoral college facilities.
Agriculture Minister Mark Furner said the state government was looking for new ways to refresh training.
"The PMO is looking for proposals to repurpose the facilities to create reinvigorated training opportunities in central western Queensland, and to consider alternate commercially sustainable future uses for the college assets," Mr Furner said.
One idea mooted for the Longreach facilities has been to entice the Defence Force to use them as a training base.
The Longreach Regional Council has backed the idea, with last month's council minutes including an action to approach Federal Agriculture Minister David Littleproud to express "support for the concept of the region being utilised by the Defence Force for training purposes".
