Cowell to follow suit on silos

The Franklin Harbour Community Development Group has been successful in obtaining a Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal grant.

Combined with the group's fundraising efforts to date, the $14,237 contribution from the Tackling Tough Times Together program brings the project funding to $21,000.

"We are ecstatic and the community is buzzing," Franklin Harbour Community Development Group President Dee Cook said.

"We now have the funding to proceed and deliver the project in 2019.

"We wish to thank everyone who has generously contributed to this project."

Funds have been raised by donations from locals and fundraising activities with volunteer efforts.

"Those who have donated their money, their time, participated in our Fun Run/Ride events, celebrated with us at the Lucky Bay Centenary and even dropped a few coins in our collection jars - every little bit has counted and this win is for each and every one of you," Mrs Cook said.

Tourism officer Stacey Franklin said the silo art would build the profile Cowell as a tourist destination.

"We know this project is going to add another meaningful reason for people to stop and appreciate our town," Ms Franklin said.

"A silo art project will help lift the profile of tourism in our area. We've seen the boost it's provided to Kimba and Tumby Bay and Cowell is ready for it," Mrs Franklin said.

The group has engaged Byron Bay based artist Austin NITSUA to complete the art work.

"I visited Cowell in 2017 and was inspired by the landscape and the people I met during my stay,'' the artist said. "I'm looking forward to heading over in September to start the project.''
