SOUTH Australian gilt, Gumshire Princess G921, from the Blenkiron family has been named the recipient of the Wayne Reid in appreciation trophy for the best exhibit of the Forbes Stud Pig Sale on Thursday.
Held at Bedgerabong Showgrounds, the event hosted producers from across NSW and even SA, with 37 top-quality pigs available for the buyers competition.
Eight boars, seven mated gilts and 21 unmated gilts were on display, but one Landrace mated gilt stole the show coming away with the top accolade and selling for the highest price in the gilt section.
At only 12 months of age, the Princess G921 mated gilt was by Gumshire Elias F413 and from Gumshire Princess D1787 and was scanned in pig to Gumshire General L/R F764 with a due date of August 1.
She weighed 96.8 kilograms at 142 days old, with an average daily weight gain of 0.682kg and a back fat of 11 millimetres.
Auctioneer Scott Reid said the best exhibit was a "cracking sow that will do a cracking job in the future" during the sale where she was snapped up for the overall gilt top price of $1250 by Kyeran Steenbergen, Young, who was interested in the new genetics she offered.

In memory of the late Wayne Reid from stock and station agency VC Reid and Son, Forbes, who passed away two years ago, the trophy is awarded the the individual pig nominated the best exhibit of the event.
Mr Reid was said to be an integral part of the survival of the pig industry, particularly in the Central West, and a strong supporter of the Forbes Stud Pig Sale since it began in 2015.
Cheryl McMahon said previously Mr Reid many years ago had established a Breeding Sale in Forbes, that unforunately ceased with a shift within the pig trade and fewer pig producers staying in the industry.
"Wayne was integral in keeping the industry alive, particularly in this area," Cheryl McMahon said.
"VC Reid and Son are the only agents that have got behind this sale, and are responsibility for ensuring it continues each year into the future.
"Since he has passed away, the boys have kept it going and continued the support of this sale."
The sale had two boars top the sale reaching an equal top price of $1800, while mated gilts hit a $1250 high and unmated gilts reached $1200.
