THE Scone Speckle Youth and Steer Showcase is currently underway with over 50 competitors from three states taking part.
Over the past two days, participants have been joining in on a range of educational activities and competitions including junior judging, paraders, clipping and fitting, steer selection, and cattle maintenance.
After a day of gruelling competition in the Scone saleyard ring, the grand and reserve grand champions from the various competitions were announced.
Judges were Jessica Grosser for paraders and Tim Bayliss for junior judging.
Ryan Carpenter from Ridgeview Livestock took out grand champion parader after he won the sub-intermediate section. He also was named the reserve champion overall junior judge after he won his division.
Mr Carpenter won a scholarship to enter any junior heifer show of his choice with entry fee supported by Target Livestock and Marketing.
Intermediate competitor Sophie Worth of Walcha was the grand champion junior judge, rising to the top of her age group first.
Ms Worth won the opportunity to take part in a three-day judging course supported by Hillview Speckle Park stud.
Reserve champion parader went to Emma-Leigh Green, Singleton, who won the intermediate section of paraders.
Age group winners in the handlers competition included:
- Pee Wee: Henry Humphries from Wattle Grove Speckle Parks, Oberon
- Junior: Josephine Green, Singleton
- Intermediate Emma-Leigh Green, Singleton
- Sub-intermediate: Ryan Carpenter, Ridgeview Livestock
- Senior: Paris Hourn, Victoria
Age group winners in the junior judging competition were:
- Pee Wee: Callie Haggan
- Junior: Jasper Anderson
- Intermediate: Sophie Worth, Walcha
- Sub-intermediate: Ryan Carpenter, Ridgeview Livestock
- Senior: Abygael Rushton-Butler
The Speckle Park Youth event concludes tomorrow with the herdsperson and special awards presented in the morning. This is followed by the Speckle Park Steer Showcase and then the Scone Speckle Park Sale.
