Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone has urged South Australians to not underestimate the importance of understanding the state's fishing rules before dropping a line or net during the Easter break.
"Fishing is a popular holiday activity so it's vital you are prepared before heading out to the water," Mr Whetstone said.
"Make sure you understand the fishing rules, including size, bag, boat and possession limits as well as the right fishing gear," he said.
People are reminded Fishcare Volunteers will be out and about throughout the holiday period to assist fishers with understanding the rules and offering fishing tips.
"Fisheries Officers will be patrolling popular fishing areas and hotspots over the Easter break, and if you are caught doing the wrong thing, you could be fined and even have your gear seized," Mr Whetstone said.
"While most recreational fishers do the right thing, it is important that everyone follows the rules, to preserve fish stocks for future generations," he said.
Illegal or suspicious fishing behaviour can be reported via the SA Recreational Fishing Guide smartphone app, or to the 24-hour FISHWATCH number on 1800 065 522.
