The 2019 Citrus Technical Forum was held in Adelaide on Wednesday and Thursday this week, attracting over 400 growers, researchers and industry members from across the country and overseas.

Citrus Australia chief executive officer Nathan Hancock opened proceedings on Wednesday morning, highlighting the successes of the citrus industry in Australia in 2018.

Mr Hancock revealed that for the second consecutive year, Australian fresh fruit exports exceeded $1 billion, with citrus leading the way.

"The citrus industry has made many advances in exports over the past few years, with 250,000 tonnes exported in 2018," he said.

Mr Hancock said exports were slightly down in volume, as a result of downturns in some of the crops, including mandarin, yet value has increased.

Other topics discussed included an insight into southern hemisphere competitor Argentina, biggest threats to Australian citrus production, biosecurity updates and frost management strategies.
