IMPROVED competition among buyers led to generally increased prices at the Ouyen sale in Vic yesterday.
There were 4258 lambs and 579 mutton on offer for a total yarding of 4837.
Lambs were generally firm, depending on quality, while mutton was $10 to $20 dearer.
Export crossbred lambs made $160-$196 or $6.20 a kilogram to $7/kg, while trades sold from $135-$166 or $6.50-$7/kg.
Topping the market was F Stone, Torrita, Vic, with 20 crossbreds at $196.
Other crossbred sellers included K&J Grayling, Walpeup, Vic, 21 at $191; G&J Izard, Merbein South, Vic, 58 at $187; R&S Faulkner, Tempy, Vic, 62 at $183; Winslow/Morrison, Underbool, Vic, 107 at $182 and 158 at $178; R&F Dalton, Tempy, 53 at $182; D&C O’Shannessy, Walpeup, 32 at $181; G&N Crow, Underbool, 104 at $177; DJ Kay, Ouyen, 61 at $176; K&A Hayter, Underbool, 77 at $173; F&L Latta, Walpeup, 26 at $162 and A&J&J&H Stone, Torrita, 53 at $156.
Stores made from $39-$127.
Light mutton made $48-$104, or $3.80/kg-$4.10/kg, and heavies went from $90-$138.
A&J&J&H Stone sold 55 head of mutton at $136, while LA&RL&DH Harmer, Meringur, Vic, had 47 at $98.
Also selling mutton were F&L Latta, with 24 at $138, and T Yard, Murrayville, Vic, 32 at $130.
Light Merinos made $110-$136 and heavies $172-$190.
Merino lamb sellers included A Schultz, Karoonda, 78 at $185 and 25 at $172; G&J Izard, Merbein South, 50 at $190 and Lone Pine Pastoral, Sea Lake, Vic, 27 at $155.
Selling Dorper lambs were NE&KL Harmer, Meringur, Vic, with 70 at $164, while MGN Gibbons, Galah, Vic, had 60 at $172.
M Pfeiffer, Ouyen, sold 72 hoggets at $152.
The next scheduled Ouyen sale is on Thursday, March 7.
