THERE was good competition on the better lines during a bumper yarding of 2195 sheep and lambs and 262 cattle at the Mount Pleasant market.
Landmark Fawcett's Colin Fawcett said there was "good competition on good lambs".
"The quality was surprisingly good, even with most people handfeeding at this stage," he said.
"It was better than expected."
The tops of the nearly 1500 lambs was achieved by two pens.
Terlinga Farm, Tungkillo, sold two lambs at $200, while KA McGorman, Mount Pleasant, sold two lambs at the same price.
DA&MA Holloway, Cromer, sold five lambs at $190.
Two vendors received $174 for their lambs - Semmler Bros, Lyndoch, for a pen of 30 and Isobel Turner, Murray Bridge, for two lambs.
LP&C Deans, Tanunda, offered 15 head, which sold at $172.
Lambs averaged $111.16.
In the hogget selection, Isobel Turner received $136 for a single animal, while MC&ML Blenkiron, Keyneton, and Brown Farming Enterprises, Keyneton, each achieved the same price for three and two animals, respectively.
AJ&JI Bowd, Athelstone, sold one hogget at $128, while WJ Cavanette, Tungkillo, received the same price for a pen of five.
M&M Amber, Mount Torrens, sold 18 wethers at $115.
J Hoskins, Vista, sold three wethers at $100.
KM&MA Arnold, Nairne, sold 28, also at $100.
The sale had 399 ewes offered, avering $55.39.
The best of these topped at $100, achieved by Brian Linke, Angaston, for a pen of 19, while A Cushion, Mount Pleasant, and S Ritchie, Tanunda, achieved the same price for two ewes each.
Mr Fawcett said the large sheep and lamb yarding was in line with the offering at this time of year - only 15 head more than at the February 2018 sale - but this year had a few extra vendors.
Cattle also sold well, considering the season, he said.
"The lightweight heifers, like everywhere, struggled, but the better end of the cattle sold well," Mr Fawcett said.
I&K Hartwell, Gumeracha, sold a steer at $1300.
AMP Farms Trust, Tungkillo, sold a steer at $1260, while AJ&JI Bowd sold one steer at $1200.
Alard Pastoral, Balhannah, sold five steers at $1155.
The steer offering averaged $1759.96.
In the heifer offering, RD Fuller, Eden Valley, sold two at $1280, J Hoskins sold one at $1050.
NH&DM Kies, Lyndoch, sold nine heifers at $985.
A pen of four cows from RD Fuller sold at $1280, while CJ&HSJ Frances, Nairne, sold four at $1240.
The next Mount Pleasant market will be the breeders and weaners sale on March 7.
