Mandayen stud exceeded its expectations at its third sale offering Angus, after an $18,000 top price was achieved twice.
The stud achieved full clearance with 44 bulls offered and sold, averaging $6829.
Mandayen Hector N433 (AI) (ET) was the first the go under the hammer for $18,000 and Mandayen Genesis N451 followed, with both bulls sold to first-time buyers Russell and Marnie Kamp, RMK Pastoral, Willalooka.
Weighing 928 kilograms, 23-month-old Mandayen Hector had Angus Breedplan figures of +8.2 for eye muscle area, +48 for 200-day growth, +117 for 600, +0.4 for intramuscular fat and +24 for docility.
Sired by Coonamble Hector H249, it also had a 39.5 centimetre scrotal circumference.
The other bull, Mandayen Genesis N451, was sired by Pathfinder Genesis G357 and weighed 844kg.
The 21-month-old had a 42cm scrotal circumference with a +5.2EMA and +56 for 200-day weight, +100 for 400 and +139 for 600-day.
The second-highest price of $9000 was achieved three times with the Kamp family securing Mandayen Generation N499.
Mr Kamp said the bulls would be used over stud and commercial cows to safeguard his artificial insemination program.
"We AI 400 commercial cows on June 1 and the bulls will then be put in the paddock at the end of June to cover any cows that do not get in calf," he said.
"We have been watching Damian's progress for a quite a few years and we have been waiting for him to come on board with Angus - we are really happy he did."
Mr Kamp selected bulls based on docility and 600-day growth and he said "these bulls had that and more."
The Kamps secured a draft of four bulls, averaging $13,250.
Lake Ellen Pastoral, Tintinara, bought 948kg Mandayen Klooney N428 and Dunholme Props through Elders Naracoorte secured 958kg Mandayen Hector N401 for the same price.
Mandayen stud manager Damian Gommers said he was extremely pleased with the sale outcome.
"The top price was a record for us. The two top price bulls were very good and go back to Millah Murrah bulls (NSW stud)," he said.
"Both had the muscle expression, soundness and beautiful feet that a top bull should have."
Amherst Livestock, Keith, through Spence Dix and Co secured five bulls to $7500, averaging $6100 and interstate buyer Bunya Pastoral, Dalby, Qld, also bought five bulls all for $4000.
While Jupiter Creek Angus through Platinum Livestock Keith secured four bulls to $7500, averaging $5875.
The sale was conducted by Spence Dix & Co, Elders and Landmark.
