ACCUSATIONS of mismanagement have been aimed at the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and the NSW government after more than one million fish were killed earlier this month in the River Darling.

Up to one million native fish are reported to have perished earlier this month due to a lack of oxygen.

There are claims too much water has been taken from the system, due to irrigation requirements, which lead to the situation.

NSW Water Minister and the MDBA say the fish kills are the result of drought and extreme heat.
