THERE was good competition from processors, butchers and farmers at the monthly Mount Pleasant market yesterday.
Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant principal Colin Fawcett said there were less stock at hand compared to the pre-Christmas sale, with 865 sheep and lambs yarded and 202 cattle.
“The sale was pretty solid on sheep and lambs, and the same for cattle,” he said.
“I’d say it was fully firm to slightly better than the pre-Christmas sale.
“The sale was well-attended by a good spread of buyers, with sheep and lambs attracting store buyers as well as the trade.
“With the cattle, there was pretty good competition on all types.”
Two vendors topped the lamb market at $160 – G Howson, Cromer, with a pen of 21 and AK&SA Day, Nairne, with a line of 11.
Regular vendors Hearnden Farms, Keyneton, sold 23 lambs at $158.
The hogget section was topped by H Persic, Angaston, with a line of six at $132.
FR&FJ Dennis, Mount Pleasant, made the highest price for wethers with six at $120.
In the cattle section, heifers made to $1040 for two Poll Herefords from CM Bond, Walker Flat. The second-highest price was $1000 for three Murray Greys from DG Carter, Eudunda.
Steers topped at $1220 for a Murray Grey from Semmler Bros, Lyndoch.
All making $1200 for their steers were SJ&RJ Dohnt, Eden Valley, with two Angus, CM Bond, with two Poll Herefords and KH Rattei, Springton, with an Angus.
Two sellers made the top price for cows at $1280 – BW&AF Schild, Lobethal, with a Murray Grey and SB&R Vivian, Mannum, also with a Murray Grey.
