THOSE who like to wet a line in their downtime are being called to get involved in the the Recreational Fishing Advisory Council and represent the state’s recreational fishers.
Primary Industries and Regional Development Minister Tim Whetstone said nominations had already been received from FishinSA, RecFish SA, and the South Australian Fishing Alliance.
"Now is the chance for individuals to put their hand up,” he said.
“There are places on the Council for five individual members with expertise in recreational fishing, including at least one female member, one inland fisher and one person representing tackle shops.
"We need a diversity of voices on the council, so I really encourage everyone who fishes to consider nominating.”
Mr Whetstone said there had been “overwhelming support” for the creation of a new representative body by recreational fishers.
"Now’s your chance to put your hand up and nominate yourself to be on the council,” he said.
“When you nominate, you have the chance to describe yourself to voters, including where you fish, relevant knowledge and experience, and a ‘pitch’ to explain why you are suitable to be on the council.”
Nominations are open until February 11 with voting to follow.
