Heifers to $2.67
Strathalbyn’s final cattle market for the year resulted in steer prices holding fully firm compared with the past markets after steers topped at $3.25 cents a kilogram.
There were 900 cattle offered in a very buoyant sale and Elders Danny Reynolds said the competitive bidding was spurred on by the wet conditions throughout most of South-Eastern Australia in the past week.
Plainer steers made from $2.00-$2.40/kg, while most of the well-bred inside types ranged from $2.90 to $3.08/kg.
The $1185 top price pen of steers from R Palma and Sons, Balhannah, made $2.92/kg.
The 15 February/March 2018-drop Angus steers weighed 405kg, and were sold to Thomas Foods International.
The same vendor also made the heifer top price of $925 or $2.56/kg for 15 February/March 2018-drop heifers at 350kg.
Most of the top inside heifers averaged north of $2.45/kg, topping at $2.67/kg.
Landmark Strathalbyn Bradley Walker said heifers were 10/kg to 20/kg dearer when compared to recent markets, while the steer job was underpinned by Landmark International.
The second-highest price in the steers section was made by Fleurieu Angus, Parawa, for 18 Angus March/April 2018-drops.
Weighing 371kg they made $1095 or $2.95/kg, while the same vendor sold six March/April 2018-drop heifers weighing 309kg at $730 or $2.36/kg.
Hectorville Propriety Limited, Bute, sold eight Angus-cross January/February drop steers at 385kg for $1070 or $2.77/kg. And 14 heifers for $910 or $2.45/kg.
AW Ness and KJ Murray, Parndana, sold 13, 317kg yard-weaned steers at $995 or $3.13/kg, along with 14 299kg heifers at $770 or $2.67/kg.
RL Carmichael, Weetulta, sold 17 February/March 2018-drop Angus cross Hereford steers at 310kg for $925 or $2.67/kg and 15, 342kg February/March drop heifers at $820.
The next sale will be held on January 4.
