THERE was good demand for the tops among the offering at the final Jamestown sheep market of the year but secondary types suffered from lack of buyers.
Elders Jamestown manager Jack Coleman said lambs that were suitable for entry into feedlots sold well while lighter secondary lambs struggled.
“The recent rain has done a bit of damage to stubbles and the feed available,” he said.
It was the same in the ewes, with the sale reaching $192 for 2017-drops, but it was a “tough day on breeding ewes”, Mr Coleman said.
“It’s getting a bit late for people to be joining,” he said.
“Pastoral ewes really got hit hard, with them showing the effects of the dry.”
Mr Coleman said ewe demand should return early in the new year.
