WOMEN and men will take to the boards in March next year to cut the stigma and raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.
About 30 women, as part of Ducks on a Pond, and 30 men will be blade shearing at the old Glencoe woolshed, which dates back to 1863, on March 10.
The night before, there will also be Tails at the Tailgate – a gathering of shearers and people from drought-stricken areas to share inspirational stories.
Ducks on the Pond is the brainchild of experienced shearer Janine Midgley, who has been working in sheds for about 30 years, including 23 as a shearer.
She said it can be an isolating career, spending hours on the road driving to jobs.
She will also be joined by experienced blade shearer Richie Foster and shearer with one arm Josh Talbot.
