THERE were more than 2000 cattle yarded at the monthly store sale at Mount Gambier on Friday, well up on the 1400 advertised.
Prices were back slightly on the previous month for heavy cattle, but lighter weights sold well.
Steers topped at $1410 for 16, 17-18-month-old Angus steers, 490 kilograms, from Westgarth Trust, Strathdownie, Vic.
Cobbs Hill Estate, Oakbank, sold the highest per kilogram steers with 17 Bull Oak Well bloods, 293kg, that made $3.68/kg.
Cow and calf prices were up and Hillview, Wando Vale, Vic topped the section with 10 cows with 11 calves at-foot that sold for $1400.
Pregnancy-tested in-calf heifers sold to $1100 for 12 from Vic vendor Rossall.
Mt Gambier sellers AB&KM Elshaug sold the top Angus heifers at a $1050, while Rendelsham vendors GM&MA Smith topped the Hereford heifer section at $1100
