THE first Strathalbyn store cattle market since April had a large crowd in attendance, with about 900 head yarded.
Elders’ Danny Reynolds said the sale was much stronger than the expectations of recent weeks.
“Steers started steady at the heavy end and picked as they went through,” he said.
“Even heifers were a bit doughy but probably 20 cents a kilogram better than where they have been.
“But the highlight was the cow and calf prices.”
Landmark’s Bradley Walker said the first market of the season at Strathalbyn created a lot of interest, with many people looking to gauge market levels.
He said there was a strong buying gallery with agents from the South East, Adelaide Plains and other areas.
He said heavier cattle were following national trends while lighter steers met better competition.
