Glencorrie Border Leicester stud recorded its most successful top price to date at its on-property sale at Sandilands last Friday, after a stud sire was knocked down for $6000.
The stud sold 102 rams from 105 offered, averaging $1443.
The top price ram was bought by return stud client Brett Gum, Lameroo, through Elders stud stock’s Tom Penna.
Sired by Coolawang 389, it weighed 111.5 kilograms and measured 130.2 on Lambplan’s Maternal $ Index.
Elders stud stock’s Tom Penna helped to select the ram for the Gum family and he said its sire presence, conformation and quality wool type were the standout traits.
“It stood up from the get go and was very alert – a top stud sire,” he said.
“The Graham’s had a reserve of $5000 on stud rams and although the stud clients were not represented heavily, once the commercial breeders got on board the sale heated up and held strong.”
The second-highest price ram was knocked down to Coolawang Pastoral Co, Mundulla, for $3200.
It weighed 121.3kgs and measured 121.3 on the Maternal $ Index.
The sale’s volume buyer Bungwahl, Apsley, Vic, secured 29 rams to $1500, averaging $1375.
While EH Pitt, Lucindale, bought nine rams to $1600, averaging $1422, and Munduney Station, Spalding, secured six rams to $1500, averaging $1500.
Another South East buyer RS Tregoweth, Lucindale, bought five rams to $2000, averaging $1680, and Holland Park Nominees, Stansbury, five rams to $1400, averaging $1360.
Stud principal Craig Graham said the top price ram was the ultimate representation of what he aimed to breed.
“It had it all,” he said.
The sale was conducted by Elders Minlaton and Landmark Minlaton with Elders stud stock’s Tom Penna as the auctioneer.
