The ninth annual sale for Pat and Robert MacDonald of Paramount White Suffolks drew a healthy crowd to Kersbrook on Tuesday, as return buyers nudged the average above $800.
The MacDonald’s sold 37 of 50 White Suffolks to a $1500 top, averaging $831 – a slight lift of $44 on last year.
Local return buyer Richard Kroen, Sunnyvale, Eden Valley, bought the top ram of the sale for $1500.
The lot 3 ram weighed 117 kilograms and measured 191.4 on the Carcase Plus index, with post weaning figures of 15.3 weight, -1.0 fat and 0.9 eye muscle depth.
Mr Kroen has been a client at Paramount since their inaugural on-property sale in 2010, and bought one other ram on the day for $1000.
Volume buyers included Para Ranges Pastoral, through Jones Livestock, Two Wells, with six rams, averaging $817; CP & KL Koch, Angaston, bought four, averaging $700; and Tullabrin Pastoral, Forreston, finished with four averaging $825.
Paramount’s Pat MacDonald said they were pretty happy with the sale, with beautiful weather and a good crowd.
Stud principal Robert MacDonald was not sure what to expect for their first year without Poll Dorsets, but he was pleased with result, with good interest in their big, meaty White Suffolks.
“It was a good turnout and we had both return and new buyers,” he said.
The sale was conducted by Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant with Landmark’s Leo Redden as auctioneer.
