MID North Santa Gertrudis stud, Goolagong, has again found a strong following for its genetics in Qld.
At last month’s Santa Central Sale at Clifton, the Tiller family from Warnertown sold four bulls for a $9000 average.
The top of their draft was Lot 31, 20-month-old, Goolagong N212, which made $14,000.
The 878-kilogram bull was embryo transfer bred from one of the stud’s top cows, and had an eye muscle area of 128 square centimetres.
It sold to Mark Daly and family, Kilcock Santa Gertrudis Stud, Deniliquin, NSW.
Another bull in the draft was the $13,000, 24-month-old, 988kg, Goolagong Emperor M128, which will now take up duties at Ian Hechendorf’s, Auburn Stud, Trangie, NSW.
Both of Goolagong’s top bulls were sons of Waco Emperor K512, which Goolagong bought for $50,000 in 2014.
It is the fifth year the Tillers have offered bulls in the sale which featured 12 vendors.
Their SA bred bulls had been in Qld since early in the year where they have been prepared by sale hosts Scott and Wendy Ferguson, Glenn Oaks Fitting Service.
The bulls were shown at both Beef 2018 in Rockhampton in May and the Ekka in Brisbane in August.
“Each year we take a couple of our top bulls up to Qld which is the home of Santas in an attempt to get our genetics into some of the better studs from Qld and NSW,” stud principal Heath Tiller said.
“We are hoping they will see the type we are breeding and come down in February to our (on-property) bull sale.”
The Santa Central sale topped at $60,000 for Glenn Oaks M81, a 25-month-old polled bull which sold to Scott and Rebecca Dunlop, Dunlop stud, Proston, Qld, who outlasted the Hatton family, Santahat stud, Monto, Qld.
The 979kg bull offered at Lot 45 was one of seven sons of Waco Eland which averaged $15,423.
