THE Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen off-shears sale at the Pinnaroo showgrounds on Friday set the benchmark for young ewe prices this selling season, with a record $318 made.
Pinnaroo couple Barry and Yvonne Thiel offered a complete dispersal of their Moorundie-blood ewes, with a line of 230 of their young ewes making the record price.
The $318 ewes were bought by Spence Dix & Co director Rodney Dix, on behalf of clients Ray and Eileen Clark, Keith.
As well as their record ewes, the Thiels also sold 154 young ewes at $290; 162, 2.5-year-old ewes at $260; 168, 3.5yo ewes for $220, 150, 4.5yo ewes at $192 and 111, 5.5yo ewes at $180.
Mr Thiel had been on Moorundie bloodlines for more than 30 years and said after Friday’s sale he had only a few lambs left to sell.
Other young ewe sellers were IF&MH Kramer, Murrayville, Vic, with 92 Glenlea Park-blds at $212, sold to Rodwells Keith, and NJ&AF Atze, Pinnaroo, with 187 Gunallo-blds at $202 also going to the same buyer.
NJ&FJ Atze also offered good lines of unshorn Gunallo-bld wether lambs, with a line of 109 selling for $130 to Kyle Livestock, Kaniva, Vic. The same buyer also bought a further 133 at $120 and 142 at $112.
Topping the 5.5yo ewe section was BS&JA Wallis, Pinnaroo, with 195 at $212.
Also selling 5.5yo ewes were WG&KJ Venning, Pinnaroo, with 140 at $162 and RL,ZG&AR Wait, Jabuk, with 218 at $156.
Offering ewe lambs were RT&DS Kerber, Lameroo, with 96 Ridgway-blds sold for $140.
PPHS agent Paul Kinnaird said a lot of buying power came from the South East, as well as local areas.
“For our second sale at the Pinnaroo showgrounds, it was fantastic to achieve such high prices,” he said.
“It’s especially pleasing to have such good results in such a tough season.”
PPHS director Robin Steen said it was a great result for the Thiel family.
“Barry did a fantastic job getting the ewes ready, especially on the feed he has,” Mr Steen said. “But top end ewes are making unbelievable money at the moment.”
