THERE were about 5000 sheep and lambs yarded at the first Crystal Brook sale of the season on Thursday last week.
Any stock in forward condition drew good bids, but other lines showing signs of the season sold accordingly.
Kicking off the sale were AG&P Greig, Crystal Brook, with 104 July-shorn crossbred lambs that sold for $160 to Thomas Foods International. TFI also bought another line of 30 of the Greig’s lambs for $144.
Selling new-season crossbred lambs were TJ&BB Clements, Narridy, with 145 at $118 and 260 at $117. The same vendor also sold 207 new-season Leahcim-blood Merino wether lambs at $102.
Topping the new-season Merino wether lamb section was Molineux & Bone, Kimba, with 169 Bunyara-blds that sold for $113 to Southern Australian Livestock Tumby Bay. The same vendor also sold the tops of the new-season Merino ewe lambs with 144 at $109.
The top price for older Merino wethers was $128 for a line of 188 White River-blds from WG Fuss & Son, Edillilie. The same vendor also sold 107, April/May 2013-drop ewes for $123 to TFI and 195 young ewes at $164.
J&P Price, Booborowie, topped the young ewe section with 260 Gum Hill-blds at $200 that were knocked down to Neil Harrop, Paskeville.
Also selling young ewes were LJ&JP Kirchner, Crystal Brook, with 57 at $178, sold to Willson Livestock, and JH&CP Longbottom, Spalding, with 94 at $150.
PB&AH Jones, Koolunga, sold 72 March/April 2017-drop, Ulooloo-bld F1 and F2 ewes for $169.
Malycha Farming Trust, Spalding, sold 109, 2.5-year-old, Baderloo-bld ewes for $156, as well as 135, 3.5yo ewes at $170.
The tops of the 5.5yo ewes went to NR Parsons, Kelly, with 144 Babirra-bld Dohne ewes that sold for $146 to TFI.
Combined Independent Agents Association director Wayne Hall said he was hopeful the Crystal Brook sale would be held every month during the spring selling season, with 10am starts.
