THE Mid North High Rainfall Zone group will explore chaff lining and how it can control weed seeds at harvest time at its field day next week.
Ngapala farmer Patrick Neal successfully used chaff lining in some of his paddocks last year and plans to do more this upcoming harvest.
He will be explaining the steps he took to adapt his New Holland header at the event.
“It’s quite simple to set up,” he said.
MNHRZ committee member Jarred Tillery said a range of headers would be at the field day, so farmers can learn how chaff lining can work with various machines.
“Chaff lining is a cheaper alternative to using hammer mill systems and we think it’s probably the way forward in our area,” he said.
“But there has been a slow uptake and a stumbling block seems to be working out how to set the header up for it. That’s why we’ve got a range of headers at the field day and people with experience in chaff lining talking about it.”
The field day is on next Wednesday, September 26, starting at 10am at Carmichael Road, Templers.
