A TEAM of fifteen South Australian competitors will head west this week for the 2018 Sheep Shearing and Woolhandling Championships.
The event will take place in Perth from September 21 to 23 as part of the Perth Royal Show.
The SA contingent features shearers and wool handlers who have taught or trained through the variety of programs offered across the state through TAFE SA.
Off the back of a successful Adelaide show, ribbon winners Shannon Warnest, Willalooka, Nathan Meaney, Kapunda, and Rhyce Erickson, Karoonda, are all entrants in the open competition.
TAFE SA shearing and wool programme coordinator Glenn Haynes is the SA team manager and said students were encouraged to take part to help hone and improve their skills.
“All of the students have been chosen on their own merit, having competed across SA in various shows,” Mr Haynes said.
SA competitors:
- Novice shearers – Robert Saegenschnitter, Truro, and Corey Waters, Waramboo.
- Intermediate shearers – Benn Heinrich, Robertstown, and Gary Schutz, Eudunda.
- Senior shearers – Brandon Waters, Waramboo, and Dane Fredrickson, Tumby Bay.
- Open shearers – Shannon Warnest (instructor), Willalooka, Nathan Meaney, Kapunda, and Rhyce Erickson, Karoonda.
- Novice woolhandling – Kate Turner, Millicent, and Laura-May Baker, Lameroo.
- Senior woolhandling – Molly Whittaker, Minlaton, and Rachel Saegenschnitter, Truro.
- Open woolhandling – Janise Hebberman, Kapunda, Sian Bacon, Kapunda and Tegan Mudge, Poochera.
