ELTON Downs White Suffolk stud defied the dry season with its second sale on Friday posting another total clearance, despite nearly doubling its sale offering.
In a vote of confidence, 26 registered bidders from across the state competed on the quality line-up presented by the Rudiger family at Karoonda.
All 100 rams averaged $1250 and reached a sale high of $2200 twice.
The first ram to sell at $2200 was Lot 5 bought by NF,EA&RM Loffler, Stonefield.
The 103 kilogram ram had a Carcase Plus index of 193.8, a 16.2 for post weaning weight, and 0.7 for post weaning eye muscle depth.
The Lofflers, who also bought the top price ram in 2017, put together five rams for a $1680 average.
The second equal top price ram, Lot 22, went to AA&JG Florance, Kingscote. With a CP of 188.8, and a post weaning weight of 14.5, the ram tipped the scales at 98kg.
Securing a further four rams between $1100 and $2000, the Florances paid an average of $1680 for their five rams.
Volume buyers GM & JL Obst, Wanbi, were a force to be reckoned with throughout the entire catalogue, putting together 13 rams to $1600, averaging $1223.
Return client Willis Farm Trust, Tarlee, secured 10 rams for a $1020 average.
Stud principal Chris Rudiger was elated with the result, particularly achieving a total clearance given the increased number of rams offered in such a difficult season for many of the stud’s clients.
“There were many new buyers that made a significant impact on the sale, along with the strong support from return buyers,” he said.
Auctioneer Luke Schreiber of Spence Dix & Co described the sale as nothing short of phenomenal, noting great buyer support from far and wide in what has been a tough season locally.
