THE results of the purebred pig sale surpassed all expectations, with good clearance and a $2400 top paid paid twice.
Making $2400 was Gumshire Banfield G260, which won best of breed for Large Whites. It came from Michael, Margaret, Shaun and Amy Blenkiron’s Gumshire stud at Keyneton.
The other $2400 boar also came from the Gumshire stud.
It was a Landrace that was named supreme champion pig in show.
The two top price boars were sold to Future Pork Genetics, and will be available to other breeders for semen sales.
Overall, there were 51 pigs sold from 65 offered, for a clearance rate of 78 per cent.
There was an average of $1055, which was $28 up on last year’s sale.
Gumshire principal Michael Blenkiron said he was happy with the sale overall, but it was fairly tough on the Berkshires.
Gumshire’s Shaun Blenkiron said he considered it an exceptional sale considering the tough conditions the industry was experiencing at the moment.
“There was good interstate support, with buyers from Vic, NSW, WA, Qld and across SA,” he said.
The top price Berkshire was a boar from Richard and Heather Cole’s Riverglen stud, Forbes, NSW, which sold to WA buyer Linton Batt.
There was one sow and litter sold from the Aroora Enterprises stud at Murray Bridge, a Large White with 11 pigs at-foot that made $1750.
Durocs sold to $1500 for an unmated gilt from Aroora Enterprises, while Hampshires made to $1200 for a Gumshire mated gilt.
The sale was conducted by Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant.
