A BOAR that judge John Singh said was one of the meatiest Landraces he had seen for a long time won supreme champion pig in show.
Gumshire Boe G298 also won junior champion and champion boar.
It came from Michael, Margaret, Shaun and Amy Blenkiron’s Gumshire stud at Keyneton.
The breeders took out supreme champion pig in show for the second year in a row.
Gumshire Boe G298 was sired bu Gumshire Boe D1793 and its dam was Gumshire Princess D941.
It weighed 100.5 kilograms at 137 days old, for an average daily weight gain of 734 grams, while its P2 fat depth was 8-millimetres.
Mr Singh said the boar stood out for a range of reasons.
“It’s a very meaty boar, with large hams and very good bone,” he said.
“It’s very good on its back legs, it’s got good length and it’s very good for teat placement.
“It also walks freely.”
The supreme pig in show was also named junior champion boar of all breeds.
Gumshire Princess G297 won junior champion sow and reserve champion sow.
The unmated gilt was sired by Gumshire Calesh A275 and its dam was Gumshire Princess D1473.
It had 14mm P2fat and weighed 95kg at 132 days old, for ADG of 720gm.
Mr Singh said Princess G297 was a lovely gilt that walked well and it would make a good breeder.
Reserve junior champion sow was Gumshire Moun F2312, a mated gilt.
It was sired by Gumshire Vintner D1291 and its dam was Gumshire Moun D2255. The sow was mated to Gumshrie General F764.
The champion Landrace sow came from Jim, Rhonda, Greg and Peta Davis’ Aroora Enterprises stud at Murray Bridge.
Aroora Princess F6306 was a mated gilt that had 8mm P2 fat.
It weighed 84kg at 130 days old for ADG of 646gm.
Princess F6303 was sired by Aroora Boe 4009 and its dam was Aroora Princess 6377. It was mated to Aroora Lanky Val 3600.
The same sow went on to win best sow under 12 months of all breeds in the interbreed section.
Aroora also won reserve junior champion and reserve champion boar with Aroora Galant G481.
