INTERSTATE buyers help buoy up the results at the Sunnybrae SAMMS ram sale at Peterborough on Friday with full clearance achieved on the 55 rams offered.
There were 34 SAMM rams offered and sold to $1700, and an average $748, while the Sunnybrae Border Leicester-SAMM cross experiment has continued to prove its popularity, with full clearance of the 21 offered, reaching $1100, and a lift in the average to $754.
The top price ram was bought by RB&SJ Lang, Georgetown, who also bought two other rams at $1300 and $850.
Windjara Pastoral, Spalding, paid the top price for the Border Leicester-SAMM cross rams, as well as another three rams, averaging $866.
Stud principal Peter Fielding said he was “very pleased” with the outcome of the sale, especially considering the season during the past 18 months.
Mr Fielding said the tough season had meant some of his regular clients had destocked their breeding flock, but support came from six new clients as well as a client returning after six years.
New buyers came from as far as Kingscote, Bombala, NSW, and Logan, Vic.
“It’s good to see SAMMS make a little bit of a comeback,” Mr Fielding said. “With record meat and wool prices, SAMMs fit the bill.”
Volume buyers were DR&CM Smart, Koolunga, with 12 SAMM rams, while new buyer LN&A McNaulty, Logan, Vic, bought seven of the crossbred rams.
The sale was conducted by Elders Jamestown, with Scott Fleetwood as auctioneer.
