Owen Primary School students are well on their way to their goal of raising $5000 for struggling SA farmers.
The year 3-4 class stepped into action after seeing how close the drought had come to their town and seeing images of farmers, just an hour away, feeding onions to their livestock as hay supplies have diminished.
After participating in rural aid fundraiser Fiver for a Farmer, the school decided they wanted to do more and came up with a novel fundraiser, Rope 4 Hope.
The students are making adjustable bracelets during their breaks which they hope local residents will buy and wear to show their support for drought-affected farmers.
So far they have made more than 400, which they are selling for $2 each at local businesses including Owen Arms Hotel, Owen Post Office and Ramsey Bros Riverton.
They are also close to having a B-double load of hay to send to a farmer in northern SA in need after generous donations from Platinum Livestock and hay processors Balco and Gilmac, but would love to hear from anyone able to donate a bale or two.
“We might be small but we can still help,” student Corbin Branson said.
