Sheep and lambs were up in numbers compared with past markets at the Mount Pleasant sale on Thursday last week, with new-season lambs being snapped up processors and local butchers.
Buyers that were eager to secure quality lambs inspected the 1008 sheep and lambs on offer, while 187 head of cattle also attracted attention from producers.
Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant’s David Schultz said lamb quality was improved but sheep condition was slightly down.
“The sheep and lamb quality attracted smaller butchers to make a bid which helped to push prices up too,” he said.
The $192 top price was paid for eight lambs from A Judd, Red Creek, and RP Rolland, Yatala Vale, sold nine for $186.
AD and EH Gordon, Williamstown, sold four for $184 and CJ&YE & Rogers, Clarendon, sold one at $174.
In demand cows and calves topped $1720 for three Herefords from LN&BD Vogelsang, Wirrabra, and T Hueppauff, Angaston, made $1480 for a Murray Grey steer.
An Angus steer from Barossa Ventures, Lyndoch, made $1380 and a crossbred heifer from SM&DM Turner, Mount Pleasant, made $1280.
