THERE was value buying at the seventh annual O'Brien Poll Merino and Dohne sale at the Wudinna Showgrounds on Thursday.
Ninety rams were sold in the ring for an average of $1086.
Buying the top price ram – a Poll Merino – was Damien Mullan, Jindalee, Wudinna, who has purchased from the stud since its inception.
Mr Mullan was impressed by the ram’s frame and wool quality.
“I think it’s a good all-rounder, with plenty of wool on it,” he said.
“It’s got the style I like.”
The ram was sired by Ridgway Advance 150003 and weighed 108 kilograms.
Its fleece was 18.5 micron, with 4.4 standard deviation, 23.7 coefficient of variation and 99 per cent comfort factor.
Buying the top price Dohne at $2000 was Simon Patterson, Streaky Bay, who has been purchasing from the stud for the past four years.
Mr Patterson started running Dohnes about 10 years ago.
He said the top price Dohne stood out for its big frame and good wool.
“I’m chasing more wool and the ram’s figures showed it was 15 per cent over the average wool cut,” he said.
The $2000 Dohne was sired by Roseville Park 140055 and weighed 125kg.
It had 20.2M fleece with 3.1 SD, 15.6 CV and 99pc CF.
