FOR Harry Nickolls, 11, Pinnaroo, taking part in the SA Junior Heifer Expo for the first time this year was a great chance to mingle with like-minded youth.
With the Pinnaroo district predominantly cropping country, few other kids in the area have cattle.
“At school I can’t really talk to anyone about cattle because no one else has them,” he said.
Harry and his brother Cooper, 12, made their debuts at the expo this year, following in the footsteps of their father Bull Oak Well stud principal Heath Nickolls.
While the boys have helped out in the yards at home with sale bulls, both were leading animals at an event for the first time.
It should not be long before a third brother joins the expo line-up, with Archie, 6, keen to participate in a couple of years’ time.
