An Australian-first initiative that will empower more than 3000 young women has arrived in SA this week.
Country to Canberra arrived in Mount Gambier today to begin Project Empower, an award-winning program that promotes leadership and gender equality to teenage girls across rural Australia.
It will cover 20,000 kilometres between May and August and chief executive officer Hannah Wandel said the not-for-profit organisation was excited about the next two weeks in SA to run the free, innovative program.
“Incredibly, we will be reaching more than 600 young women in SA high schools alone,” she said.
“Project Empower builds self-confidence, educates about diversity and provides leadership training. We want to ensure no matter where you’re from or what gender you are; you have the tools to succeed.”
Ms Wandel hails from Blyth in the state’s Mid North and said she was eager to discuss important issues with local students.
“We received dozens of expressions of interest asking us to come and run Project Empower in their region. It shows that people are crying out for programs like this in the bush,” she said.
Project Empower will arrive in Mount Gambier today, Lameroo and Loxton June 26, Glossop June 27, Clare June 28, Maitland June 29, Hawker July 2, Cowell and Kimba July 3, Cummins July 4, Port Lincoln July 5 and Ceduna July 6.
The roadtrip will ultimately travel through every state and territory to over 90 rural and remote towns by August.
