THE ROYAL Adelaide Show’s grains and fodder judging is the biggest competition of its type in Australia and this year the prize pool is larger than ever before.
As well as the usual judging of the various grain and hay types, this year two new awards aimed at promoting innovation have been added.
The Nufarm National Grain Innovation Award provides $5000 towards an overseas study tour to further the winner’s knowledge of innovative farming practises, while Pasture Genetics are contributing proprietary seed product worth $3000 and a one-on-one on-farm agronomic consultation for the National Fodder award.
Grain and fodder committee member Peter Smith said the national award entries could be submitted in either written or video form.
“We’re aiming to promote the ways that farmers are improving their productivity,” he said.
Entries for the general grains judging closed on June 8, but the national awards are open to July 27.
Durum is the feature grain at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show.
