Mikaela Tapp has been named the Cloncurry Showgirl for 2018.
Ms Tapp received the award at the Show’s official opening on Saturday fending off the challenge of fellow entrants Samantha Wood and Annie Henwood.
Ms Tapp grew up in Cloncurry and has attended the Cloncurry and District Show throughout her life, and is now working at Ernest Henry Mine.
“I’m a born and bred local,” Ms Tapp said.
“My parents have always been heavily involved in the show so I thought this year I should step out of my comfort zone and get involved with the show and the community,” she said.
All three contestants were introduced at the Cloncurry Cattleman’s Dinner on Thursday night and asked a question by Sarah Harvey.
Ms Harvey said Mikaela enjoyed volunteering with local groups and asked her what she got out of it.
“I love seeing the smile on people’s faces,” Mikaela responded.
Ms Tapp will now represent Cloncurry at the district showgirl finals.
