An outbreak of Mediterranean fruit fly was declared at Thevenard on SA’s west coast following a detection of larvae in the area on May 11, but the outbreak area has since been extended following the detection of further flies outside the original outbreak area.
An extended outbreak area has been established surrounding the outbreak centre and host fruit cannot be removed from properties inside the new outbreak area.
All properties and businesses within the outbreak area will receive information from Biosecurity SA about the outbreak and associated restrictions.
A 7.5km suspension area has also been established beyond the 1.5km outbreak area. If you are a commercial grower within the suspension area, you can apply treatments under accreditation to move fruit.
The quarantine and suspension areas will remain in place until at least November 19 2018.
