Sixty years after the Port Augusta-based School of the Air was established in 1958, present and former students, parents and teachers gathered together to mark the momentous milestone.
The school has gone through many changes throughout its 60 years, including being incorporated into the Open Access College and the shift from the old HF radios to internet technology.
OAC principal Julie Taylor said the focus still remained on the students and the larger SOTA community.
“SOTA has a rich and proud history and while it has undergone change, the core is still the same,” she said.
Students at the school typically live 200 kilometres to 400km out of Port Augusta, with some up to 800km away.
More celebrations for the event are planned later this year with a dinner at Port Augusta on June 23. More information on the event is here.
