A HEREFORD and Charolais breeder celebrating 50 years of stud production is the judge for the 2017 Hereford National Wodonga Show.
Brent and Anna Fisher operate the Silverstream Charolais and Hereford studs near Christchurch, New Zealand, calving about 250 Charolais cows and 70 Hereford cows.
Mr Fisher has judged for many years, starting at country shows. He said he was looking forward to the event, after judging at the Sydney and Melbourne royal shows in previous years.
“Wodonga is internationally recognised as premier beef event and I feel extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to officiate at this year’s event,” Mr Fisher said.
“Vendors have put in a huge effort to bring their cattle to Wodonga for the sale which is the main event.
“My role is to not only get the best look at each individual animal but also make sure the buying audience get the best possible look at the bulls.
“Ultimately the buyers are the only judges that really matter.”
Mr Fisher said structure would be his focus while judging.
“The great strength of the Hereford is it's adaptability and resilience.
“I will be looking for quality cattle that have the capacity and constitution to keep the Hereford breed at the forefront of the beef industry.”
